Weather Station Digital Anemometer Review
I've yet touse this outdoors, and I'll add to this review after I check its accuracy with my Kestrel. The package DOES NOT include the RS232 data cable, nor the software. I think the product pic came from Alibaba, which DOES include the cable and software.Making a cable isn't hard, but I've yet to be able to find the software online. My first impression is that it is about the quality of any Chinese made electronic tool you'll find at Harbor Freight. The velocity probe seemed a little stiff, so I pulled the cups off and put a drop of light machine oil on the shaft and some white lithium grease inside the hub where it may contact the housing. This seemed to allow the cups to move more freely.
The direction probe seems pretty accurate. However, when it hits South, just the slightest movement causes it to roll over to 202.5 degrees, SW.
Both probes have 1/4" threads on the bottom for tripod mounting. The cables are only 6' long, so be prepared to experience the weather you are monitoring.
**Edit 2/3/13**
I checked the velocity sensor against a Kestrel. They are within a knot of each other. So, that's cool for an amateur weather nut, like me. The temperature sensor is right with every other temp sensor I have.
The threads on the bottoms of the sensors ARE NOT 1/4-20. Most likely a metric size, but a 1/4-20 tap took care of that.
Next: Lengthening the probe wiring... Wish me luck.
Still no luck in finding software.
