I did not see an accurate photo of this item before I purchased it. So it arrived (very heavy) and I took it apart. I realized that if I didn't like it, I could never get it back to a post office to return it, too heavy for me. I have never seen anything like it. It is strips of leather, the strips usually folded at some point, the overall effect a kind of pile of leather strips going every which way. There is also a step up to it, which takes a little getting used. All that being said, I like it. It is different, does not show dirt. In fact you cannot vacuum it with the roller running on your vacuum. You can only use the suction portion of the vacuum. There is nothing for my dogs to hurt themselves on with this runner, unlike loopy carpets which tear their nails off. It doesn't slip at all so no there is no bother with carpet strips under it. It is fun and I would give it a four rating, since some of the pieces of leather are coming off, not many. I think a better photo should be used so that people have an idea of what they are buying.
